US Government donates OD Security Body Scanners to Nigerian NDLEA

The United States Government has purchased four OD Security SOTER RS Security Body Scanners and donated them to the Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for security operations at Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano and Abudja International Airports, representing part of its commitment in the fight against International drug trafficking.

During the inauguration of the body scanner machines, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders said; "It gives me great pleasure to dedicate these scanners, which are an important new tool in Nigeria's anti-drug trafficking arsenal, a full body scanner that will enable Nigerian law enforcement to perform a quick, non invasive search of suspected drug traffickers and to locate illegal drugs or other contrabands no matter how cleverly hidden they might be."

These new scanners will increase the level of security operations previously possible through the use of conventional metal detectors. Non metallic objects hidden under clothes, in natural cavities or within the human body cannot be detected by conventional metal detectors and typically, these non-detectable items, such as narcotics, explosives, precious stones, plastic weapons, or other contraband, can only be detected by highly intrusive total body searches.

The SOTER RS Security Body Scanner can undertake a whole body, clothing or body searches detecting everything hidden in or outside the human body within just 10 seconds, negating the need for the previously used intrusive whole body/strip searches.

Jan Steven van Wingerden of OD Security, the manufacturers of SOTER RS stated; "We are delighted to play an active part in the Global Communities fight against the menace of International drug trafficking and terrorism." He continues, "The operating principal of the SOTOR RS is based on the use of a very narrow co-limited x-ray beam. The exposure is then read by a highly sensitive linear multi element semiconductor detector, which sends its output to a proprietary software interpolation and enhancement process."

SOTER is currently operational in Australia, Kuwait, Mexico, Nigeria, United Arab Emirates.
OD Security will be exhibiting at ASIS, Atlanta, USA. 15-18th September 2008
