UK ARMY ACQUIRES ELOPTRO LASER RANGEFINDERS
Monday, January 27, 2003

The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (UK MoD) has placed another order on Eloptro, a division of South Africa's Denel Group, for one hundred LH40C hand-held laser rangefinders. This follows on an earlier order for 226 Eloptro rangefinders.

Eloptro's LH40C hand-held laser rangefinder includes features such as eye-safety, a built-in digital compass and a range performance of up to 20 kilometres. The UK infantry uses the LH40C in forward observer missions.

"This contract which substantially increases the total number of hand-held laser rangefinders acquired by the UK, indicates to us the level of trust the Ministry of Defence has in our product, says Eloptro General Manager Knox Msebenzi. "We feel positive that the credibility garnered through these contracts spells good prospects for the LH40C in other markets.

The contract with the UK MoD offered the biggest break for the LH40C in a NATO country. "We've had two years in which, firstly to prove the performance of the laser rangefinder to the user, and secondly to establish a positive reputation for committed after-sales support, adds Roberto Bruzzaniti, Eloptro Marketing Manager. "We would like to believe that we have been able to do both.

According to Bruzzaniti, the new batch of LH40C retains the technical features of the first export, with a few minor improvements.

The LH40C provides range, bearing and elevation to a target. When linked to a compatible global positioning system (GPS), the exact coordinates of the target are determined.

The LH40C is designed to cope with temperature differentials of plus 55 degrees Celsius to minus 30 degrees Celsius, as well as with humidity, rain, electro-magnetic interference, a broad range of voltages, immersion in water and corrosion.
