Key observations from the first day of the Conference Chairman John Donlon, at this year's World Border Security Congress:

The IOM described the congress occuring at a very special moment in time, to discuss and devolp thinking around significant border challenges we all face.

The OSCE showed two excellent case studies on terrorists travelling across borders, showing a lack of consistency in systematic checking of travel documents.

It's clear that great efforts are being made internationally to improve integrated border management, but most of it being done in isolation.

There are still no international standards in Adnvanced Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Records (PNR), and there is a call from both industry and government agencies to get standards in place sooner rather than later. API is getting there but PNR has a long way to go!
