Smiths Detection Inc. Expert to Present on Tactical Chemistry at the Florida HazMat Training Symposium

Smiths Detection Inc. (SDI) expert, Dr. Chris Weber, will deliver an interactive program on tactical chemistry at the 5th Annual Florida HazMat Training Symposium on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

The symposium, which takes place at The Plaza Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach, FL, January 17 - 20, 2017, features hands-on training; a trade show; and a hazmat team competition aimed at helping hazardous materials technicians improve their ability to respond to potential threats.

Dan Gelston, President of SDI, said, "SDI's world-class detection and identification solutions help first-responders quickly understand the situations they are reacting to in the field. Our broad-ranging expertise and real-world experience, along with close customer interaction and feedback, enables SDI to design and manufacture cutting-edge products that meet customer needs and maximize first-responder capabilities."

Dr. Weber's workshop,"Tactical Chemistry,"will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. It will give technicians the opportunity to address a variety of tactical decision-making challenges at hazardous materials incidents through chemical demonstrations; scenario-based exercises; hands-on activities; and chemical identification exercises. Participants will use a variety of air monitoring and sample identification equipment, including pH paper; M8 paper; oxidizer paper; multi-gas detectors; PIDs; Raman; FTIR; and GC/MS instruments. The class will be highly interactive and include discussion of real-world scenarios based on current events and experience.

Smiths Detection Inc.'s range of explosives identification and detection technologies includes Raman and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometers and Ion Mobility Spectrometry, in products such as Trace-Pro, ACE-ID, Target-IDand Sabre 5000.
