L-3 TRL to Enter CNI Cybersecurity Market

L-3 TRL Technology (L-3 TRL) announced today a collaboration with UK cybersecurity company Deep-Secure Ltd to pursue business opportunities and provide solutions for the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) cybersecurity market.

As a leading provider of encryption products to the UK and international markets, L-3 TRL has been helping military and government customers defend against cyber threats for over a decade. This new collaboration allows L-3 TRL to move into the adjacent market of CNI cybersecurity, protecting the facilities, systems, sites and networks that are fundamental to the fabric of an organisation.

The two companies are currently working on a joint development effort for the energy industry. L-3 TRL is designing and developing the necessary hardware, and Deep-Secure is providing an existing software architecture for the new embedded processing platform.

"The collaboration with Deep-Secure allows us to combine our capabilities to produce a wide range of solutions delivering the next generation of cyber protection for many of the country's critical, trusted industrial process control systems," said Adrian Cunningham, vice president of L-3 TRL's National Security division.

From oil and gas to water and nuclear energy, industrial process control systems help to power the world. Historically, the organisations responsible for these systems have relied on air gaps to protect them from threats because traditional IT-focused security solutions are unsuitable to protect the operational requirements of SCADA and process control systems.

The first cybersecurity products to be developed under this collaboration will be a series of guards for the end-to-end protection of SCADA industrial control systems. These guards will use an accreditable solution for transferring data securely from one level to another, minimising the attack surface risks. The guards will protect boundaries between corporate and plant IT networks, ensure cross-boundary security and combat threats.
