Smiths Detection Equips Delhi's New Airport Terminal

Smiths Detection today announced that it has completed the installation of all the main security scanning systems in the newly opened Terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi, India.

The prestige contract to equip one of the world's biggest airport terminals included a wide range of advanced x-ray and trace detection systems to screen passengers, hand luggage and checked-in bags for explosives, weapons and contraband. See product range.

Smiths Detection President Stephen Phipson, CBE, said: "India is one of Smiths Detection's fastest growing markets and we are delighted that our advanced scanning systems are being used to enhance travellers' security at such a key transport hub for the entire region."

JK Srivastava, Managing Director of Smiths Detection's operations in India, said: "This is one of our most prestigious and biggest airport contracts with around 350 detection systems now in place supported by 19 on-site engineers who provide around-the-clock service."

The state-of-the-art T3 terminal, which has 168 check-in counters, 78 air bridges and 48 contact stands, will eventually treble IGIA's capacity to around 60 million passengers a year.
