Reson selected for Indian UUV project Sonar manufacturer Reson told Unmanned Vehicles at UDT Europe that it has secured a contract for its SeaBat 7128 high-resolution forward-looking sonar system from the Indian Navy's (IN's) Naval Science and Technology Laboratory. The contract was signed in January with the delivery of the sonar expected to be delivered in September. India is in the process of developing a new large UUV as part of a long term research programme that could see the IN procure as many as sixteen of the systems. India is in the process of strengthening its underwater defences in the littoral. Reson has also been in India discussing the country's new waterside security programme, which was launched in the aftermath of the seaborne terrorist attack on Mumbai. The company attended a recent industry day with nineteen other companies to discuss the project. The SeaBat 7128 operates in the 200kHz or 400 kHz that illuminates a wide, 128 degree horizontal sector ahead of the Sonar Head Assembly. The sonar has a 0.5 degree beam width and a range of up to 200m at 400 kHz. By Darren Lake, Cannes UV Magazine http://www.shephard.co.uk/news/2946
