Barco to equip Uruguay's largest airport with digital network

Barco, a preferred partner in professional visualization, is proud to announce a contract to equip Uruguay's Carrasco International airport with a variety of high-end LED products. To signify the importance of this deal for the commercial relationships between Belgium and Uruguay, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium attended the signing ceremony in Montevideo on October 9.

Carrasco International Airport is located close to Uruguay's capital, Montevideo, and as the country's most important airport, it serves roughly 1.5 million passengers annually, with numbers still rising strongly each year. It is projected to be serving nearly 3 million passengers.

Carrasco was looking for clear, crisp digital visualization for its major entrance hall, tax free shop and various other areas of the airport, and had contracted high-tech integrator Comercial South International to assist in this search. Comercial South, which can claim over 20 years of experience in the industry, immediately got on the job and selected Barco as the company that could provide the most comprehensive, cost-effective and impressive visualization solutions. Barco products to be installed at Carrasco International Airport include two SLite 10XP LED displays for the airport's central hall, a two by six meter MiTRIX display in the tax free area, and a freeform, 60 by 1.5 meter MiSTRIP system outside above the entrance of the airport to welcome and inform the visitors.

"Barco's SLite 10XP features a 10mm pixel pitch and excellent contrast levels, which result in bright, saturated colors and high contrast levels even in the airport's unusually bright circumstances. The MiTRIX system in the tax free area, on the other hand, is a lightweight, bright and highly transparent LED display system, while the creative MiSTRIP consists of LED bars that can be arranged in any form, so that in their own way, all four systems can be used for a variety of powerful architectural lighting effects," said Gabriel Moreno, the Executive Director of Commercial South.

"We are very happy with our choice," states Martín Eurnekian, President of Carrasco International Airport, "We think Barco and Comercial South are companies with the right track record of creativity and excellence to help us out, and we're certain that the integration of Barco's LED hardware with Comercial South's services will help confirm Carrasco International Airport's increasing global standing and importance."

"Barco is proud to be selected for this landmark installation in Uruguay," adds Bob Lambermont, Barco's General Manager Latin America "We see this as a success of our long term presence and good knowledge of the local needs. We believe that in this way, we can contribute to the growth of Carrasco International as one of South America's leading hubs of international traffic, and inspire other companies in the region to adopt similar solutions with high-end LED visualization."

The signing ceremony of the contract took place on October 9 in Montevideo, in the presence of HRH Prince Philippe of Belgium, which marks the deal's importance for economic and diplomatic relationships between Uruguay and Belgium.
