Order for RoKAF electronic counter measures system

As part of the US ongoing support of the Republic of Korea Air Force's (RoKAF's) F-15K fleet Northrop Grumman has received a contract to provide electronic combat systems the aircraft.
According to the company, it has won a $74.6 million contract to provide 21 AN/ALQ-135M electronic combat systems for the RoKAF's F-15Ks. The system is a fully automatic, internally-mounted electronic combat system that prioritises, manages, and defeats multiple threats simultaneously.
The AN/ALQ-135M was developed specifically to protect the RoKAF's F-15s. In an original contract Seoul ordered a total of 40 systems for its F-15Ks with final deliveries scheduled for this year 2008. The new order for 21 systems is thought to be a follow-on order in conjunction with the recently approved purchase of a further 21 F-15Ks from Boeing that will be delivered between 2010 and 2012
The latest configuration improves on heritage ALQ-135 systems by replacing multiple processors with a new PowerPC-based system that offers significant speed and memory enhancements. The ALQ-135M also makes use of sophisticated microwave power module (MPM) transmitter technology to reduce weight and boost performance.
'The selection of the ALQ-135M affirms Northrop Grumman's position as the supplier of electronic warfare solutions for the worldwide F-15 fleet,' said Mark Kula, vice president of Northrop Grumman's Radio Frequency Combat and Information Systems business unit in a statement. 'The ALQ-135M is key to maintaining the F-15's unparalleled air dominance record,' he added.
Deliveries are expected to start in February 2010 and be completed by October 2011.
