Dolch launches innovative wireless handheld touch display
Dolch already offers the most easily expandable rugged portable computer in the form of the FlexPAC, and now the company is launching an innovative lightweight, yet rugged, wireless handheld touch display that can be used up to 50 m (150 ft) from the FlexPAC PC.
Weighing only 710 g (1.5 lbs) and measuring just 220 x 29.5 x 162 mm, the display is truly portable. In addition, it is sealed to IP54, has an operating temperature range of -20 to +60 degrees C, and is designed to withstand shock and vibration in accordance with military standards. As such, the device will easily cope with most industrial environments and field applications.
Furthermore, the wireless display is also equipped with an RS232 port so that other serial devices can be connected as if they were being connected directly to the computer. This means that scanners for barcodes or 2D machine-readable codes can be connected, as well as label printers or other peripheral devices.
At the heart of the device is the option of an 8.4-inch transflective daylight-readable display or an 8.4� Transmissive Display, both SVGA (800 x 600 pixels) colour TFT displays with integrated touchscreens. The lithium-ion battery pack provides up to four hours of continuous operation, or an AC/DC adapter can be used to give extended operating periods.
Dolch strategic partner, Panasonic, originally developed the wireless display for use with its own range of ‘wearable' PCs. Based on mutual agreement, Panasonic re-designed their software to operate with the Dolch range of rugged portable computers. The displays sold by Dolch will benefit from comprehensive global customer support, referred to as ‘the Dolch Difference'.
