Dolch NotePAC chosen for tempesting by Secure Systems Production

As a respected source for Tempest certified equipment, Secure Systems Production is clearly aware of what the UK and other NATO armed forces require of a ruggedised computer. The company was also aware that it would be too expensive to seek equipment produced solely for military use, and so selected the Dolch NotePAC, a notebook based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components making it competitive in terms of cost as well as performance.

To meet the needs of the digitized battlefield of tomorrow, the demand for ruggedised computers is certain to grow and to satisfy that demand, the expertise of these two leading companies have been combined to provide an affordable solution.

Chris Sullivan, Sales Director at Secure Systems Production, observes: "We have known of Dolch for many years, not only because of its reputation for quality and excellent service, but also for its UK support facility. This made it a logical source for the rugged computers we required for Tempesting.

"The confidence we have in the support we are given by Dolch is indeed a valued bonus over and above the quality of its products."

While the Dolch all-metal notebook amply meets Milspec STD-810E requirements in terms of shock and vibration resistance, the NotePAC is also able to withstand intrusion by water, salt laden air, and blowing dust, being fully sealed to IP54. The cast magnesium case and shock mounted components in the NotePAC can withstand a 15g operating shock load and a quite remarkable 50g non-operating shock load.

Indeed, just as Dolch uses in-house test facilities to ensure that its products can withstand the extremes of stress and temperature experienced in aircraft, armoured vehicles and warships, so too Secure Systems has established its own test facilities. This eases the process of gaining Tempest accreditation to equipment that has met the highest EMC standards.

Every branch of the American military uses Dolch products designed and tested to military specifications, and increasingly NotePAC users in the armed forces of the United Kingdom and other NATO countries are coming to appreciate the equipment which Secure Systems Production has brought to Tempest EMC standard.

It is not too bold to claim that Dolch brought a revolutionary approach to the delivery of consistent quality for military and other ‘tough environment' users. With the added quality conferred upon its NotePACs by Secure Systems, the two companies have secured a market niche to which others can only aspire.
