BAE SYSTEMS' REFURBISHMENT FACILITY GIVES NEW LIFE TO ROYAL NAVY RADARS
Portsmouth, United Kingdom. - BAE Systems has invested over £300,000 in a new refurbishment facility for naval systems, which allows the Company to restore operational equipment for the UK's Royal Navy and other customers, whilst conforming to the highest level of environmental requirements.

The facility, based at the BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies' (Insyte) Broad Oak site in Portsmouth, is equipped to grit blast and paint spray a wide variety of sizes of equipment using High Chrome granulated stainless steel grit. This provides a niche capability to refurbish and paint large products in a secure facility, such as the Royal Navy's Seawolf tracking radar and 1022 surveillance radars which are currently installed on UK Royal Navy ships.

The Grit Blast has a 100% grit recovery system with Air blast and Coarse filters that separate paint and rust particles from the grit, thus removing any pollutants and allowing it to be fully recycled. The paint cleaning equipment separates solvents and solids, also allowing solvents to be recycled.

Clive Richardson, managing director of BAE Systems Insyte, said: "This new facility extends BAE Systems' through life support capability and demonstrates the Company's commitment to meeting our customers evolving requirements - in this case, the need to extend the life of current products in service. The refurbishment programme is a key part of the Seawolf end to end programme."

BAE Systems Broad Oak manufacturing facility is a world class manufacturer of systems, subsystems, microwave assemblies plus associated through-life support for high reliability markets.
