Smiths Detection has won a major contract from the Ministry of Justice to supply and maintain a wide range of security scanners at more than 120 prisons run by the UK's National Offender Management Service. The systems, ranging from X-ray scanners and high-sensitivity archway metal detectors, will be used to check members of staff, visitors and incoming freight for concealed weapons, contraband or explosives. Mal Maginnis, President of Smiths Detection, said: "Our advanced systems are ideal for providing a layered approach to help protect employees, visitors and prisoners at HM Prison Service facilities." Smiths Detection will also provide continued maintenance of the advanced technology systems throughout the four-year contract.
