Chess shifts gear to launch Zeta direct drive platform Chess Dynamics has launched a direct drive variant of its popular Zeta Tracking and Surveillance Platform. While still offering the conventional geared platform, widely specified for land and maritime applications, Chess claims the direct drive option introduces higher precision with greatly improved stabilisation. "Direct drive performs some functions better than geared equivalents,"says Managing Director, Graham Beall. "Introducing this latest variant of the successful Zeta platform we believe will open up new market opportunities for us in precision long range video tracking applications." The direct drive Zeta platform is smaller, more compact and significantly lighter than alternative direct drive systems, while coming in at about half the price. "We're using common components from the existing platform to create enhanced capability and it's that potential that we are launching at Eurosatory." Consistently proven in operational environments, the Zeta platform has been deployed successfully in a host of demanding applications, from mast-mounted-long range coastal and border surveillance to specialist antenna tracking systems.
