DSEi 2009 prepares for another record exhibitor and visitor turnout

DSEi 2009 (Defence Systems & Equipment International) is gearing up for another record exhibitor turnout. Just under a year out from the event, the exhibition is already 80 per cent sold and the organisers expect it to be 15 per cent larger than in 2007.

In 2007 around 26,500 visitors crowded the aisles of ExCeL in London’s Docklands – for 2009 the entire floor space at the venue has been booked to host the event.

DSEi, which is now part of Clarion Defence & Security’s portfolio of events, is working closely with UKTi’s Defence & Security Organisation to ensure the show attracts its usual high numbers of foreign delegations and high ranking senior visitors. The last DSEi saw 77 official delegations attending from 50 countries.

DSEi’s strong appeal to both visitors and exhibitors lies in its ability to consistently bring together the entire defence supply chain under one roof. From prime contractors wanting to display the capability of a platform or technology to an SME design and manufacturing house looking for a route to access the defence and security environment, DSEi provides an ideal forum.

Nearly a fifth of visitors in 2007 said they visited DSEi to keep up-to-date with what was new in the industry. They were not disappointed with more than 1,350 exhibitors from 40 countries showcasing their latest technologies, products and services.

The waterside location of ExCeL means that visiting warships will once again be invited to berth beside the exhibition halls to offer ships visits to all visitors. In 2007 six ships from four countries attended DSEi, attracting more than 2,600 visitors to the conducted tours.

Next year will also see the return of waterborne demonstrations by various naval suppliers and the popular British Army demonstration area will also offer a visually interesting focal point within the halls.
